Different subscription boxes are getting increasingly popular and it’s easy to find a unique box for pretty much any type of person. You like coffee? There’s a box for that. Spicy food? They’ve got you covered. You want to learn a new crafty skill each month? There are more boxes for you than I can count. But what are the best subscription boxes for writers?
I looked through CrateJoy to find you the best bookish subscription boxes for writers and authors of all kinds, and all of these boxes are great for birthdays and other gifting occasions. Buying a recurring subscription is a great way to get multiple gifts with just a couple of clicks, but generally, all subscriptions let you purchase just one box at a time, too.
(We have also written about the best subscription boxes for creative people and we have a huge gift guide for writers and readers.)
PLEASE NOTE: Not all subscription boxes ship worldwide, so do make sure that what you have your eye on can actually be delivered where you want it. Some sellers include the shipping in the price and others calculate it based on your location.

The best writer subscription boxes
I’ve featured many different subscription boxes for writers but they rarely seem to stay available for very long. As I’m updating this post in 2026, pretty much the only subscription box made specifically for writers seems awfully like the content has been created with AI. (I’ve asked them about it, and strangely they haven’t answered my question…) To me that just seems highly unethical, so I’m not going to link them here.
Journal Savvy might not be specifically made for fiction writers, but in my opinion, it’s one of the best choices out there. According to them, they are “dedicated to finding quality journals, writing tools, and unique accessories to discover new ways to enjoy your journal experience” which sounds pretty neat. I’m a big fan of writing by hand anyway so I’d really like this box for myself, too.
Dark Academia Subscription Box is a monthly subscription box with art prints, bookish items, stickers, stationery, home goods, and accessories, all curated for people who love that academia aesthetic and want a scholarly atmosphere in their home. Sounds like fun!
When I find more subscription boxes for writers that I’d feel happy to include in this post (I know these are affiliate links but I’d never want to promote anything to you that I personally wouldn’t find useful) I’ll definitely update this section accordingly.
Subscription box for a quiet night in (perfect for writing)
Introvert’s Retreat is a subscription box for all of us who prefer a quiet night in. In every box, you get a new paperback, a handmade soy candle and some delicious surprise snacks. It’s perfect for a writer who needs to shut in for a while (or forever) to work on their next bestselling novel – it’s important to take little breaks and read someone else’s books, too.
Candy Time Box sends you a wonderful candy selection each month – what better to do while reading or writing than snack on delicious sugary treats?
180 Degree Self Care Box is full of thoughtful self-care products, and I’m sure every modern writer knows what a frazzling experience it can be to juggle writing with all your other real-life responsibilities. This cozy subscription box will definitely help you de-stress and have some me-time.
Tales From Lanternlight Hollow sounds like such a fun subscription box, though it’s hard to say which category it should go in. Each monthly box comes with a mystery, plus crafts, snacks and stationery. Not to sound like a TikTok influencer or anything, but I’m obsessed.
Book subscription boxes for writers and readers
There are countless book boxes out there and I bet any writer would enjoy most of them. Here are a couple options to choose from, and you can find more in our gift guide.

Books & More is one of those rare subscription boxes that gets me immediately excited about ordering. Every month you get one or two books tailored to your tastes and at least three fun novelty items, though if you’d just prefer the books, you can also opt out of the extras.
My Coffee and Book Club combines two of my favourite things and I don’t think I need to type them out again for you to know what they are. In every box, you get two hardcover books of your chosen genre (or you can opt for a surprise) and a small bag of micro-roasted gourmet coffee (ground or whole bean). Currently they also offer a FREE ebook if you contact the seller once you’ve subscribed – a pretty good deal.
Book Brews Box continues on the same theme – you get a book, tea or coffee, and high quality chocolate. What more could you ask for? World peace?
Writer subscription boxes with stationery
What writer doesn’t need things to write with? Check out these stationery subscription boxes that fulfill all your handwriting and note-taking needs. Currently in the winter of 2026 the selection isn’t very big unless you’re more interested in arts and crafts or writing letters, but I’ll keep this post updated and include anything new and useful.
Paper Bliss is a fun stationery box with a different theme for each month. You don’t need to be a writer to enjoy it, but the pens and other fun writing accessories will definitely make plotting a story a lot more fun. If you get the Paper Bliss box as a gift, they even include a personalised message to make your gift even more thoughtful.
